Styal Res 3 Middlewich Town Res 0

A great performance from the boys on Saturday. Good clean sheet and good football being played.

Very solid at the back all game, midfield held it together and good finishing from the lads up top.

Great team effort and spirit!

Well done boys

Below are the player ratings for the Game, but based on night out:

OZZY – 4  would have been an 8 but due to me finding out he has his girlfriends name on his boots I’ve marked him down

Knighty – 3, poor banter on night out and tried to chat up Collins bird

Jack – cant score him, went missing in town

Sefu – minus 25, couldn’t get us on club guest list or in for free so had to que up in rain

Super sub Alex – 10, for scoring when he came on a finished a beer quicker than any of the team

Westy – 6 great effort on pitch but was going Ibiza after game mid season so I’m not happy

A disappointing day of results at Styal, the first team game being a tight affair fought out at Altrincham Road.

Golbourne Reserves 1 Styal Reserves 0

Lessons to be Learnt if you don’t take your Chances

After last sat everyone wanted to get back to winning ways away to Golbourne. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen, with only Styal themselves to blame.

The Golbourne team was weak, and this was obvious in the first half after wave, after wave of Styals attack went unpunished. Jedwood and CK were working well getting into attacking positions on the left flank, and Richie Rich and Razor were having the same joy on the right. As styal got round the back of Golbourne, the final ball just wasn’t there, or the wrong option was taken going forward. Even though  surely it was to be a matter of time before Kanyes west or potter would get on the end of something and make the break through.

Golbournes keeper was a busy man and was called on for a couple of saves by Jedwood and as Half time approached, Rick and Shag-Rag were confident that the goal would come but it was obvious Styal and dropped their game down to Golbournes level, Styal needed to play at pace and get at Golbourne quicker in order to get the lead. Overshadowed by the opportunities being squandered it must be said, the biggest positive from the half, a clean sheet. Great performance from the back 4 and Toni in net.

Half Time 0-0

So the second half started. Simple instructions, get sharper, play more football, react quicker to everything, and get the ball wide. Styal started well, again. Looked organised at the back with GOOD Loz winning everything and Joe’s Bro doing his part as well. Going forward was the same story as the first half, but every attack was to no avail. Richi Rich was then subbed on 60 mins for Mr 70mph. a tactically change with instructions to offer width across the back 4. CK and Jedwood switched positions, and the running games was bringing plenty of opportunities Styals way. But the final ball/decision just wasn’t there. Joes Bros Friend got into the box, just the keeper to beat, shot pulled wide. Potter was causing mayhem, but just couldn’t get a shot off. Time was running out, OK, a draws not bad at Golbourne, but we should be murdering these! It just wasn’t happening upfront. Rick and Shag rag needed options, but the bench was weak (Rick and Shagrag the next to supersubs). 85th minute, we still believe something will come our way, but heads are dropping, then – Nightmare – Jessus/beneyoun brings down Golbourne forward in the box –Penalty! Unbelievable……………..ladies and Gentlemen……………………..Toni in net………………………………………and what a save. Second time this season form the spot! Class. Surely that would spur lads in for last 5 to get the winner. Couple more attacks, get forward, looking good, wrong ball! Urgggggggggg..Football sometimes. Then the last minute. Ball played across the back with the aim to get it out wide..no……….joes bro get caught napping, and sticker takes the ball of him, into the box they go, sliding block, hits the arm……….Penalty! again -  OMG (would like to say something a little stronger, but cant)

But with Toni in goal, its not over! However, this time, unfortunately, it was, as the Golbourne kick found the back of the net. Back to the centre, Ball kicked – whistle for FULL TIME.

Managers Comments

How, How, How have we lost that game????? Simply put………….. didn’t take our chances after getting in the right positions, and just because it wasn’t happening, we let our heads drop which slumped our performance. Everyone watching including the ref and their manager said Golbourne were lucky, but that’s football, you don’t take your chances, you don’t have the right to 3 points.

However..89mins of football..and we didn’t concede, best record to date. 1 day its going to click.

Middlewich at home next sat – 1st Sat home game – lets click then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Styal 'A' 1 Cornishamn Celtic 7  --Styal were again found out in the second half of a game with fitness levels not up to scratch and heads going down when the going got tough. The first half was a hard fought and even affair and Styal overcame Cornishman's early opener when the reliable Gareth Metcalfe netted again following a goalkeeping error on the stroke of half time. Or at least Styal thought it was the stroke of half time...Cornishman went back up the pitch from the kick off and some less than resolute defending allowed them a strike from the edge of the box which goalkeeper Perry stood no chance with. Half Time Styal 1 Cornishman 2. There had been a number of positives in the first half; Alex Forrester was always a threat to the Cornishman back 4 and Steve Manifold gave Styal a competitive edge in the middle of the park. The defence also looked more organised with Lee Broome also providing an outlet at right back and making good progress down the flank.

The second half was a different game. Styal seemed to lose concentration at the back and the game opened up for Cornishamn who were able to pick Styal off with some ease at times. With no fixture next week the 'A' team have some days to get this out of their system and come back in 14 days time and get the team's foundations right.

Sep 4, 2011, 9:21 am

Styal 'A' looked good for a point in their opening league game against the new league entrants PFC with the scores level at 2-2 entering the last couple of minutes of the match. However a late PFC strike left them little time to respond to the 3-2 deficit . Styal's highlight of the game was a fine Gareth Metcalfe goal midway through the first half when Styal took a 2-1 lead.

An unlucky afternoon at Eagle for a pumped up Reserve Team

After Thursday lesson in football, the reserves took to the pitch with a new positive attitude, and a belief that there season was about to start!

Styal started with a high tempo and desire about them, and Eagle struggled to keep pace as the back four stood solid as Styal dominated in the middle of the park.

The ball was getting into the box, thanks to the nifty work of Crowther and Knighty on the left flank, and 15 mins in, Sefu weaved round Eagles defender only to be brought down blatantly in the box – no penalty! 10mins later, Newman goes round the back after a good exchange with Westy, and again, down he went after contact in the box, no penalty! Unbelieveable! but that’s football sometimes. There was no panic as the boys we playing well and we looked certain to break the deadlock at anytime, but then, again, against the run of play….Eagle score. Balls. That’s not good, especially knowing how this team reacts when they go 1 down………………………..but that was the old team. The boys rallied, and straight away, Sefu latched on to a loose ball in the Eagle box and Styal were level. Half time 1-1 with Styal bouncing and looking the more likely to win.

Out step Styal for the second half, the tempo drops slightly from both sides as the heat and fitness levels start to kick in. Westy look dangerous, Ants playing like a bull after a red cloth, Collins is working hard, its  a new Styal team, we’re going to win this. Eagle get the ball on the edge of the box, and poke a dinky shot at Ozzy, its tame, but deflects off coopers knee, no! it loops round ozzy into the net! Unbelievable. But gain Styal start there engines back up, and 10 mins later Ant, of all people runs in to head a cross, and guides it straight into the top bin,2 -2. They lads are doing a great job. Its gunna be a lovely afternoon.

So, 20mins left, another scrabble on the edge of the box, tackles are flying in, everyone wants to block every shot, Loz, tackles, Aspinal tackle, Ant tackles, every single tackle, the ball ends up at Eagles players feet from lucky rebounds, and then one lets off a shot that settles into the bottom corner of the net. This is not our day! But there 20mins left on the clock! 18 left, Sefu, 1 on 1 , yesssssss…ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lifted over the cross bar. 15 left, goal mouth scramble, ball cleared. 10 left, another scramble, ball cleared, 5 left, everyone is knackered but they don’t give in, 1 final push, comfortable save fro Eagles keeper. Then the whilst blows for full time. Gutted, but what a difference in hunger from the lads. We’re gutted, but feel proud, we should have come away with something, but today wasn’t our day.

Managers Comments – couldn’t have asked for a better bounce back from Thursday, the lads played like they wanted to win and came off with there head held high. We were unlucky, and we all know it. Play with this attitude every game and we’re going to turn into a cracking side.

11th August Billinge Res v Styal Res
Aug 12, 2011, 12:11 pm

TEAM: Ozzy, Newman, Cooper Dunfield, Crowther, Malone, Danny, Asa, Knighty, Sefu, Ant. SUS: West (45) Wilding (70) Take a bow Ozzy 1st Game of the season, Billinge away. Carpet of a pitch. Styal boys started up for it, and before too long Asa strook the cross bar with a world beater of a freekick. Football was being played and the tempo was good, but against the run of play Styal found themselves 1 down after a switch off at the back. However, this did not stop them as Styal began to pressure again, with spells of good passing in the middle of the park and along the back four. Then, for a second time, another goal was leaked as a cross found the unmarked head of Billinge centre Forward, who placed it beautifully in the bottom corner. Half Time 2 -0 The second half saw West come on for Ant, with the idea of getting the ball to stick up top more. Again, Styal starting the half well, but Billinge broke and after some unlucky rebounds, and no decisive clearance, Billinge found themselves through on goal to bury a 3rd. Heads then dropped, expectedly, and although Styal kept a lot of the ball, things just weren’t clicking. A flourish of attacks from Billinge then followed as they tried to take advantage of the dishearten Styal. Step Up Ozzy, a series of great reaction saves, 1 on 1 saves, and general outstanding goalkeeping meant the score line was kept to only 6. Great display by the Styal number 1. The remainder of the game saw Styal keep the ball well again, but just couldn’t get it to stick up top, and struggled to make any clear cut chances. Asa stepped up to a 30yarder with 10mins to go, and buried it superbly to add a little consolation to the disheartened Styal display. Full Time 6-1 Managers Verdict Good spells of football within the back four and midfield. Work to do getting the ball to stick up top and create clearer chances and to install confidence in the team when they fall behind. Back four need to remained organised and switched on, sometimes need to get suck in harder. Lads know how this hurts, we wont see a score line like this again this season.
