Baroni 1 Styal 'A' 2

With the bare 11 players and Lee Taylor vacating his usual centre half berth to keep goal it was important Styal got off to a good start. Unfortunately they didnt. The first 10 minutes saw them looking lethargic all over the pitch and when a Baroni shot slipped through Taylor's fingers to give Baroni a lead things didnt look hopeful. However Styal's 11 all fought hard to get their individual games up to scratch and as the half went on the limited Baroni's forays forward and started to create good chances themselves, Fluery and Cummings in particular. However it was Zain Abassi making his first start who reacted more quickly than anyone in the Baroni penalty box to fire home a volley past the Baroni keeper on the half hour.

The second half saw Styal start better and they created some good chances which should have been finished. The winner came midway through the half when Abassi bent a tempting cross in from the left wing which beat everyone, flying straight into the top corner of the net. With Tom Allen and Stu Davies suffering knocks and without any subs to call on the last 20 minutes saw increasing pressure from Baroni. Styal's back 4 stood firm and Lee Taylor pulled off a number of good saves and dealt with all the crosses baroni threw in to make sure the points were in the bag for Styal.

Sat 16th April Styal Res 1 Gamesly Res 3; Broadheath C 2 Styal 'A' 1
Apr 17, 2011, 11:43 am

Broadheath C 2 Styal 'A' 1

Styal took a lead midway through the first half when Tom Allen bundled the ball across the line after a cross from Si Ghassemi. Styal played well at the start of the second half but the general fitness levels and a tendency to give the ball away saw Broadheaths midfield coming more and more into the game and constant pressure on Styal's resilient back 4. The game turned midway through the 2nd half when darren Fluery cut in from the right and set up Stu Davise whose shot hit the bar. The second goal would have killed Broadheath off.

With about 20 minutes left Broadheath scored with a run through Styal's midfield and a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. With 10 minutes to go Broadheath scored again as Styal's defence became deeper and deeper their centre forward got in behind to score past Osborne in Styal's goals. Jones, Fluery and Littler has solid games in the defence.

Mon 11th April Sale Town Res 4 Styal 'A' 1
Apr 12, 2011, 5:38 pm

Styal couldnt make it through to the cup final after a poor first half performance left them too much to do in a second half that they dominated.

Sale were quicker to the ball, sharper in the tackle and more determined from the off and when they managed to pull Styal's defenders around or pressure Styal on the ball they were rewarded with chances and 2 early goals within 20 minutes started them off well. Styal made chances themselves but there was no killer instinct when it was required and a 3rd sloppy goal from Styal's perspective just before half time didnt help matters.

The second half started immediately with a Sale goal and just as quickly Tom Allen headed in for Styal to pull it back to 4-1. Styal never stopped working. Littler and Cummings battled hard upfront and Metcalfe, Fluery and Twentyman all grafted and as the game went on became more influentual around the Sale box. Styal had enough chances to pull things back, the woodwork saving Sale and some solid defending when it was required.
