Styal 'A' were beaten by the better team on Saturday but the team put in a great effort from start to finish. Sale tried to impose their passing game from the start and moved the ball well. Styal competed but found that their pace upfront and in the wide areas were matched by Sale's quick defenders who marked Davis and McAlinden tightly throughout. A couple of lapses in concentration were both punished during the first half by Sale who took a 2-0 lead into the break. Sale continued the good football in the second half and Styal managed for the most part to maintain their discipline and shape. However another defensive slip cost a goal just after the break and a tired challenge by Cook gave Sale a penalty which was converted. The last 10 minutes saw Styal camped in Sale's half and Ari Jones netted when set up by Abassi with the last kick of the game for a deserved consolation goal.

Styal lost out to Eagle in Saturday's key top of the table clash.

Unicorn 3 Styal 2

Despite dominating the game Styal paid dearly for the chances they missed. After dominating the first 35 minutes and having the chances to score a hatful of goals, a long kick from the Unicorn keeper down the middle of the pitch result in an early Unicorn opener. This was followed by another swift goal as Styal naively pushed for a quick equaliser and defenders were caught out of position. The second half started with Styal again dominating but a swift Unicorn break away 10 minutes in resulted in the games best goal to put Styal 3 down.

Styal totally dominated the remainder of the game and again had more than enough chances to win it Allen scored with a low shot and Fluery pulled a second goalback. Inbetween goals the unicorn keeper was sent off for pulling down Fluery when he was through on goal and had gone round him. Much to Styal's frustration the equaliser wouldn't come in a game where they should have taken all the points.

Dec 12, 2010, 7:53 pm

Styal put in a fighting performance on Saturday at Lostock. With the scores 1-1 at half time Matt Toole who was the outstanding player on the pitch scored twice; the second a run from his own half finishing with a blistering left footed shot. The last few minutes saw Lostock throw everything at Styal and although they scored their second goal with 90 on the clock Styal held on until the end.

Styal Res continued to be unpredictable following up a cup win at Cheadle with a defeat at home to the same side. This time 2-0 down at h/t Styal rallied to draw level with 2 well taken Hammy strikes only to see a late and very debatable spot kick leave them pointless.

Needing to get back on track Styal travelled to Grappenhall with Poch having to make some enforced changes. Loz came in at left back for the absent Jo Knight, Marchy returned to the centre of midfield with Livo away and Arry came in at ctr half alongside Luke. A fairly even start to the match with a midfield scrap being keenly contested. Styal looked solid at the back and always lively up front with Sam C down the left causing problems. When the goal came it was Ryan Moroney’s pin point cross that was met by Marner who buried his header in the bottom left. A cross from Hammy on 45min gave Styal breathing space when it was deflected into his own net by the Grappenhall centre half.

A well taken Hammy strike just after the break killed the game off and all that was left was for Sefu to add to his growing goal tally with 2 strikes in quick succession, the last from a superb run from Luke May.

All round good performance but Styal Reserves must start to put a string of results together if they are to continue to climb from their position of 4th. Styal Reserves play the leaders Eagle on Saturday.

Northenden Vics 3 Styal 'A' 2

Styal were lucky not to go one down in the opening minutes of the game after stand in keeper Nick Rankin pulled off a fantastic penalty save, doing wonders for his confidence so early on in the match.

It was Styal who took the lead halfway through the first half when Ant Richardson's hard work paid off as he held up the ball well before putting Tom Allen through, who neatly finished past the oncoming Northenden stopper.

Styal held their nerve into half time, but soon after were back on level terms before Sam Jackson's corner was fumbled into the net giving Styal the lead once again.

Unfortunately Styal could not hold on, and were unlucky to concede an equaliser before Northenden snatched all three points in injury time.

Styal 'A' 4 Sale Town Res 2

Some early mistakes from Sale ensured that Styal were able to take a 2-0 lead early in the game which they carried into half time.

The first came about 2 minutes into the game after a pass back, and from the free kick the ball was rolled into the path of Sam Jackson who arrowed the ball into the top corner from just inside the penalty area.

The lead was doubled just moments later when some confusion between defender and goalkeeper allowed Chris Littler in to score in an empty net, keeping up his recent run of good form.

Styal battled well to keep their lead, with solid defending particularly from centre backs Lee and Harry, meaning that there was no real threats on the Styal goal.

Styal welcomed back Nick Bazley between the sticks who had a solid game, but was powerless to stop a stunning long range effort from Sale to get them back into the game with around half an hour to play.

However it was Styal who responded best and put the game beyond doubt, first when Gareth Metcalf's flick on found Ant Richardon who was able to head home, before Matt Cook's through ball played in Metcalf who beat the offside trap and produced a stunning finish from distance.

A late Sale penalty had little impact on the final result as Styal performed well and were able to take all 3 points.
